The ‘SDA Mildura Roadshow’ landed in Mildura in the week beginning 13 February. Organiser Denise Fernie was joined by five young people from our Membership Unit.
Having done similar exercises in Melbourne at Northland and Chadstone shopping centres, Mildura’s welcoming country vibe was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The week gave us the opportunity to showcase the work of the Union. Together with Maurice Blackburn and their Mildura-based associate Paul Zaharias, and supported by REST Super and ME Bank, we ran a successful stall at the plaza.
The stall allowed Denise the opportunity to assist members with issues, update members’ details and inform people about our campaigns, including the fight to keep penalty rates and the ongoing campaign to end junior rates of pay!
The stall was a great success with many people approaching us to join the Union.
Throughout the week, the commitment of the many wonderful Delegates across the various stores in Mildura, and the assistance that they provided to our Officials in stores was invaluable.
Overall it was a very successful week. We were able to increase the membership density of Mildura by a staggering 50% with over 200 new members joining the SDA!
