The Fair Work Commission has handed down its Annual Wage Review decision.
The Commission determined a 3.5% wage increase to Award rates of pay from the first full pay period on or after 1 July this year.
This is an above inflation wage increase, and the majority of SDA members covered by an Award or an SDA-negotiated Agreement linked to this decision will receive this pay rise.
We understand how important this wage increase is to you as cost of living pressures continue to impact SDA members.
The wage increase means the hourly rate for a Level 1 Adult Retail Employee covered by the Retail Award increases to $26.55 per hour.
This pay rise was won by unions and union members across Australia campaigning for better wages and a genuine living wage.

Our submission to the review and the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) submission made strong arguments for this much needed pay rise.
The SDA’s advocacy to win this pay rise helped to stop employer lobby groups who were asking for a minimal increase that would not have met the cost of living pressures.
Every year, the SDA pushes for better wages for SDA members. Over the last few years, we’ve helped to deliver these crucial pay rises:
• 2024: 3.75%
• 2023: 5.75%
• 2022: 4.6%
We’ll provide new specific rates of pay that will apply under your Award or SDA negotiated Agreement closer to 1 July. Keep an eye out for more details.
DON’T FORGET – YOUR SUPERANNUATION INCREASES TOO
This pay rise starts on 1 July, but you’ll also receive a boost to your super.
The Superannuation Guarantee is increasing from 11.5% to 12% from 1 July.
This important increase to your superannuation is thanks to the union movement and the Labor Government.
Everyone deserves to retire in dignity and protecting and building your super is the best way to do that.
