SDA Young Workmate Of The Year Award

The Victorian SDA Young Workmate of the Year winner was recently announced.

The Young Workmate of the Year Award celebrates hard-working, dedicated, reliable younger workers in the workplace. It is open to all young workers 25 years of age and under who work in a range of industries covered by the SDA, including retail, fast-food and warehousing.

An Overwhelming Response

This year, the competition allowed people to go on to the SDA 100% pay website to nominate and vote for young workers who give 100% in the workplace and make the workplace a better environment for all.

Victoria alone had more than 50 entries to this year’s competition, with every young worker nominated deserving of the prize, but unfortunately, we could only pick one winner.

Asel's A Deserving Winner

The Victorian Winner of the SDA Young Workmate of the Year 2015 is Asel Indula Korale Kankamge from Coles Craigieburn Central.

Asel is 20 years old and works in the Coles Services department.

He was nominated by his fellow Coles Services team member Trisha. Asel received a huge number of votes online.

Trisha was extremely complimentary about Asel and the work he does within the store.

She says that Asel always goes above and beyond within the store and is always available to help out fellow workers.

Asel is considered a very valuable member of the Coles team. His positive attitude and hard work make the store a better place each and every time he works.

Asel is a very worthy winner of this year’s award, including a prize of $500, which Asel has very generously decided to use to help needy children overseas. He plans to purchase books and stationery to send back to Sri Lanka to help improve the lives of the local kids in the town where he grew up.

We would like to congratulate Asel for his contribution to his workplace, and would also like to congratulate all the nominees in this year’s competition.
