Big W Announces Store Closures

Big W announced today that it would look at closing up to 30 Big W stores over the next 3 years. They did not announce which individual stores may close as they are still in discussions with landlords on lease terms.

SDA WILL BE FOCUSED ON MEMBERS AND JOBS

The SDA is focused on the needs of our Big W members.

Our first priority is to find out which stores will be affected and then to work with SDA members and Big W to minimise the number of jobs lost and maximise opportunity for jobs in any Woolworths Ltd business for our Big W members.

We do know that 84% of the Big W store network will remain open and there will also be opportunities we can access in other Woolworths brands.

We will work with members and Big W to maximise jobs for members. Where as a last resort there are redundancies we will work with members and the Company to implement the recently negotiated higher redundancy standards in the Big W Agreement and any other benefits that we can secure for our members.

SDA WILL KEEP MEMBERS INFORMED. ARE YOUR DETAILS UP TO DATE?

The SDA will keep members informed of any decisions Big W makes about store closures and work with our members impacted by these decisions.

It is important that all members contact details are up to date so we can keep you informed of any developments.

Any workmates who are not yet members of the SDA need to join the SDA today to be kept informed and receive SDA support.

If you have any queries please contact the SDA on 9698 1400, or Freecall 1800 133 048 (landline only).
