Industrial Relations Update Seminar

Over 500 SDA Delegates, Health and Safety Representatives and Deputy HSRs attended our Industrial Relations Update Seminar on Wednesday 23 May.

We had the Premier doing the official opening by video (he was in Parliament that day).

There was a great address by the head of the Australian trade union movement Sally McManus, Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, on the Change the Rules Campaign.

SDA National Secretary Gerard Dwyer updated us on enterprise bargaining and some of the many issues the SDA is progressing.

We had a forum on customer violence and abuse including hearing the stories of three Delegates. We also reported on the SDA No One Deserves A Serve Campaign which aims to change customer attitudes. Gerard Dwyer was able to update us on the industry round table. We want employers to start taking responsibility in this area. We are pleased that they are engaging with us. We want our members to be treated with respect.

We also had addresses on WorkCover, union services, union communications and the SDA’s positive agenda on many issues being pursued on behalf of our members.

The feedback is very positive and we hope everyone took a lot away from the Seminar.
