Call to Regulate Labour Hire Agencies

The Victorian Government conducted a review into the labour hire industry and also insecure work in 2016.

Union Action Saves Paid Parental Leave

The Turnbull Government has backed down from their proposed cuts to Paid Parental Leave, which would have forced retail workers back to work earlier after having a baby.

Unions, including the SDA, played a key role in protecting the current Paid Parental Leave Scheme by campaigning and lobbying key Senators.

SDA Roadshow Rolls Into Broadmeadows

The SDA roadshow visited the Broadmeadows area from 27 March to 2 April, with a stand at the town centre outside of Kmart on the Friday and Saturday.

Having a stand in the centre raised the profile of the SDA and our partners REST, ME Bank and Maurice Blackburn who all had representatives for our members to access. Many staff, SDA members, store managers, Hume City Councillors and community residents visited the stand over the two days.

Arising from a National Executive decision in February 2017, there will be an increase in union fees, operative from 1 July 2017.
